The competition is held in over 50 Skill sets across six broad skill strands namely Construction and building Technology, Transportation and Logistics, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Information and Communication Technology , Creative arts and fashion, and Social and Personal Services. The next World Skills competition is to be held in Abu Dhabi in October 2017 and subsequently in 2019 in Kazan, Russia.

PSDM will take the initiative to chalk out a detailed plan for organizing district Level and State Level skill competitions as per the norms/ standards so that deserving candidates from the state may get a chance to compete at the national level and make their way to the World Skill Competition.
