Assessment of Candidates and Trainers on Non Domain Skills-( Engllish and IT)

PSDM’s experience at the field level and with prospective employer’s indicate that the ability to communicate in English is a huge asset to many companies and organisations including those who do not use English as an official language. Companies who conduct business internationally are likely to be engaging with people who speak English as a first or second language on a regular basis making the ability to use English in the workplace a very valuable skill.

Although there are defined mechanisms within the overall skilling framework to assess candidates on the domain skills there are no laid down principles of assessment for non- domain courses which include English and soft skills.

In a one of its kind initiative Punjab Skill Development Mission has roped in the services of RIE( Regional Institute of English) to assess both the trainers and the candidates on English ( speaking and writing skills) as well as IT Skills.

Representatives from RIE visited the Training Centres running under PSDM in the District of Amritsar and conducted assessment of the Trainers and candidates on English and IT Skills. A total Number of 200 Candidates and 15 Trainers were assessed during this assessment drive.

RIE will submit a report based on their study which would assist the Punjab Skill Development Mission in fine-tuning the training pedagogy to improve skill level among the candidates.
